Hi, book buddies ☺ Let me tell you about an emotional, sensitive, beautiful, hot story by the incredible Laurelin Paige. You will feel so much with SLASH.

MY OPINION 

Passion and deep love fuse in this novella in epic ways. 

I knew beforehand that tragedy would touch this romance because Camilla, the main character, had a profound impact in me when I read the Slay series.

Even as a stranger, this damaged and resilient survivor can still resonate with the reader on many levels. A professional photographer, a mother, a fighter who carries wounds below skin and above. This is why the story means so much on its own, yet also grows with a background. 

The introspective narrative focuses on the inner workings of Camilla as she reflects on her darkened past, the lights in her present, and the man who awakens and stirs and tempts her beyond the walls around her. It happens during a photography course she imparts and it is beautifully rendered as the author extrapolates several trade techniques to apply them to her emotional journey. The effect is riveting. 

Both characters share a talent for the art of photography and it is as much a bonding experience as their desire and compatibility. 

Bittersweet, arduous, the romance blossoms in his wooing of her heart, and it finally explodes in pleasures of the flesh. Very touching, raw as well, and gorgeously perceptive and sensitive.

Hendrix didn’t strike me as ridiculous. Or impulsive. Or silly. Why on earth, then, would he believe that there could be something worth seeking out with me? If that’s what he meant at all. Which...he did, didn’t he? 

It’s confusing, and confusion makes me hide, on the whole. But since I can’t hide because I’m the f*cking teacher in this class—seriously, how did this happen?—and for some reason the educator is expected to stay present, I find my confusion turning to anger. It works itself through me until the beauty of our night together is cropped out of my memory and what’s left is trite and fleeting. 

His presence feels nothing like flattery—which it did feel flattering, admittedly, for a half second there in the midst of everything else. Now, though, it just feels invasive and unprofessional and mean. Perhaps I’d confront him about it, if I were a different sort of person, one who isn’t afraid to stand up to a challenge. One who isn’t afraid to live her life. But I’m not that sort of person, so after I give out the assignments and send the students on their way, I plan to gather my things and get on my way as soon as possible, so fond of hiding that I am.

 I was stupid enough to believe—or perhaps hopeful is the better term—that Hendrix would let me do that, as he’d let me leave that night in Paris, not that I’d given him a choice. He doesn’t, though, of course. Of course. He approaches me, his leather camera bag slung over his shoulder, a man satchel underneath. 

“Camilla,” he says in that American accent that makes me both cringe and swoon all at once, and for the briefest of moments I find myself considering something different for a change. I consider staying. But underneath my long sleeve polo neck, my skin throbs with an intensity that equals the blaring of a car alarm, and I think of Fred waiting for me at home to take him out for ice cream and the dead husband who hurt me as much as he loved me and the ugliness that marks me inside and out. And in the chaos of those thoughts, there is no option to stay. 

“You being here is in bad taste,” I say before he has a chance to say anything else. “Don’t do this to me.” I brush past him then, and with the heat of that brief contact following me in radiating waves, I rush outside to disappear among the Saturday-morning Londoners who are out enjoying the early signs of spring.

Crown me THE QUEEN

Hi, book buddies :-) I've been feeling like a QUEEN lately thanks to Jennifer L. Armentrout :-D It's been torture having to wait for a new summer to bring me the conclusion to THE PRINCE and THE KING. What a superb story!

MY OPINION OF THE QUEEN

Intense paranormal romance. I can’t believe it's been another year since the previous release, The King.

This is an impressive serial and one I became happily addicted to. It's hard to improve in the magnificent second book, but I have thoroughly enjoyed this installment which I am not sure is the last one or not.

Caden, the fae king, shows overwhelming love and loyalty to the most resilient of humans, Brighton. He really is swoony here. Yet once more it is her who proves her immense strength and honour in all her painful decisions. I was extremely invested in her relationship with Caden, especially due to the bomb dropped at the end of the second novella. Now, it's the consequences that she has to deal with, and it's a heavy burden of emotions, politics, and fate. So engaging and powerful! The passion and the heart-felt scenes were glorious. 

The mystery around the Winter Court, evil Aric, and the control liquour continues to baffle the fae. I found it to go in twisted ways. For a moment, I was torn with what I thought was a horrible plot twist, yet it really worked well to build danger, tension, and the final turn of events. Well crafted and beyond emotional, this part of the series touches on all the themes that had to be addressed. And I was so happy to be reunited with Tink. 

I think it wraps quite well when it comes to the couple, yet the deeper story of the Summer Court and the Winter Court is still open-ended. Wonderful to read as everything by this author is.

My heart squeezed painfully, and I closed my eyes. So much had happened since I woke up, no longer chained to what I believed would be my tomb. I’d just remembered what Aric had insinuated. That a Summer fae had been aiding him. I needed to tell Caden this. Not only that, I was still trying to process everything that had happened with Aric, what had come before that and after. And just an hour ago, I’d felt a sense of hope for the first time since Aric had taken me. The feeling had nearly stolen my breath. Caden loved me. He’d ended his arranged engagement for me, but the awe-inspiring part was that I could still feel attraction and love after being trapped by Aric. 

The pain and the humiliation and the god-awful fear hadn’t stolen the capability to desire, want, or love from me. Realizing that was life-altering. I knew that I could move on from what Aric had done, even if doing so took days or months or years. And I knew that Caden would be waiting for me, no matter how long it took. THE BISHOP will steal your heart

Hi, book buddies :-) It is always a pleasure to talk about one of my favourite authors: SKYE WARREN. She has a breathtaking way to express her stories, and I am a devoted fan. Right now, we can enjoy THE BISHOP, a novella of suspense and dark romance. 💜

MY OPINION

This is so beautiful! 

A chilling prologue sets a bleak and poetic tone for this beautifully melancholic story where art and mystery mingle to bind the couple.

Piece by piece, the characters emerge to ensnare the reader's avid need for a connection. The seller of a chess piece and the mysterious woman couldn’t appear more riveting than with that first laden conversation.  

This author excels at crafting tragic circumstances for the hero and heroine, and in this case it is a stolen chess bishop that throws their sorrows into stark relief while sparking a dark sensuality between them. The interactions are so alluring. Danger and desire permeate those days they spend together, and there is a wet scene that OMG. 

Both Anders and Natalie hide secrets that have scarred them, and they might stand on enemy sides of the chess board but they share such intriguing dialogues and such mesmerizing chemistry that their whole lives are changed. I loved seeing the couples from other books in the Tanglewood universe, they are powerfully present here. I loved Ander's passion which is primitive and animalistic, yet he is also touchingly caring and romantic with Natalie. And she is a brave woman, so brave. 

What a magnetic story about redemption and finding love despite all the pain.  And written with such fascinating sensitivity. I wish these stories never ended.

Hi, book buddies :-) Do you like short stories? I love novellas so I read a lot of them, and I was pleasantly surprised to find out about the release of THE OPEN DOOR, by Laurelin Paige.

MY OPINION

I was curious about how a married couple in love would behave when given the chance to expand their intimate activities. 

The mundane of marriage life takes a glossy after effect when they insert the forbidden nature of a special club in their schedule. This very relatable couple reacts in a way that I really appreciated. They address the scandalous activities in there, not like jaded experts, but as ordinary people with insecurities and questions. It's much hotter and interesting that way.

This novella touches on kinks and pleasure, yet also relationships and communication and true love. I liked the  hectic day to day of family and children, and the visits to the club to explore the possibilities. Sometimes the characters did things I didn't particularly like but they served them to grow as a couple and to find out things about themselves. 

The last limit they test is intense and acts as a catalyst for them. I liked the ending, the man's patience and the woman's vulnerability that wasn't perfect. Very hot and appealing.

MY OPINION

Impressive. Just impressive. I was not expecting such gut-wrenching drama and tension.

The Fae, New Orleans, and one woman in the middle of chaos and evil.

After The Prince, I was really pumped for Brighton’s story of revenge and forbidden love. A curvy lady with a tortured past, she’s still looking for her mother’s murderer in this very much sought after continuation.  

Caden is now the King, and he’s still infuriating, protective, elusive and downright tempting. I relished their confrontations, their incredible chemistry. I agonized over his obvious feelings for her while he pushed her away because of his Fae status. 

Brighton is a fighter here, so brave and resilient, and I was really in awe of her when danger engulfs the plot. These chapters with her withstanding such a battle of wills and endurance was painful and awesome in ways you can’t imagine. Supernatural or not, this story pulses with intensity both emotional and life-changing. 

The romance is exquisite in its forbidden nature, the stakes are high in paranormal politics, and the cliffhanger is mortal!

It's always a decadent pleasure to go back to Damien and Nikki. This novella sways between beautifully blissful marriage life and darkly alluring journey through the senses.

Damien Stark loves his wife above all else. He's planning to set up a way to protect the innocent from the monsters in this world. First, though, he has to show his beloved the real extent of her strength. 

This chapter of their lives gets surprisingly daring and exhilarating. Damon and Nikki renew the bond between them in deeper, more meaningful ways that fill this story with pleasure, feeling and power. I loved how true it still feels to continue the adventure alongside these characters. The setting is as perfect as what they learn there about themselves.

I also liked the other characters' support, and I think Antonio's story is going to be amazing.

MY OPINION

It's good to be back in the arms of Damien Stark. 

Domestic bliss is a rose never without its sharp thorns when it comes to Nikki and Damien. I loved reading her perspective as she counts her blessings in family life, work and her hot, devoted husband. I envied her even! :-)

Adding a bit of an edge, there is a shadow that's creeping over her happiness. She tries to persuade her preoccupied husband to confide in her, but something is preventing it. It was so easy to be consumed by this couple’s life. I enjoyed their deep connection, their escapade, their unstoppable sensuality. Then, wow, a mindblowing bomb puts their bond to the test. It seemed impossible to survive it, yet the author manages to shake their trust and reinforce it at the same time with a good plot twist and some very beautiful words.

I'm really satisfied with this novella. It adds yet another layer to this thoroughly crafted world of Damien and his soulmate Nikki.

I’ve just popped a cube of Wisconsin Cheddar into my mouth when my phone chimes, signaling a call from Damien. “Hey,” I say through a mouthful of cheese. “Are you in the car?” “Actually, I’m stuck here. It’s been one of those days.” “Oh.” Disappointment crashes over me, along with the fear that my plans for a long weekend are going to be swept away in a flood of work crises. I draw in a breath and catch Jamie’s eye, her expression sympathetic. “Well, Jamie’s here. Bound by a Master of Freedom

This series of novellas by different authors is really something, book buddies. I love the simple but alluring feel of the covers, and the stories tend to be really well written and original. For example, today, with MASTER OF FREEDOM, by Cherise Sinclair. Did I like it? Oh, yeah!

Detective Atticus Ware gave up his beloved Idaho to start again in the mountains of California, close to his imprisoned brother. He has a rewarding job and friends, but the experienced Dominant wants more than the Do-Me submissives who flock around him. He needs a woman who will give her heart as well as her body. 

Virginia, “Gin,” is damn good at her challenging career as a prison psychologist. However, one problem inmate is mired in misery and unable to overcome his guilt at causing a friend’s death. 

To clear her mind, she joins a friend’s kinky backpacking excursion, planning to hide in her tent during the evening BDSM pursuits. But Atticus lures her into the activities. She’s read about BDSM, but submission under the hands of a powerful Dom is beyond anything she’d imagined. She doesn’t trust men, doesn’t want a relationship, and yet…wants more from him. 

Finally, Atticus has found the woman he wants in his life. In his bed. In his cuffs. But she’s not only his brother’s therapist, but also works in a prison. How can he tolerate his woman walking into danger every single blasted day?

MY OPINION

One of the things that really grabbed my attention was that Atticus is a Dom who teaches men new to the lifestyle how to treat their wives or submissives. He shows them how to identify the clues on body language or facial gestures that mean distress or pleasure so as to be attuned to the woman and never fail her. Isn't that glorious?

These lessons were so enlightening, they opened my eyes and i felt very keen on knowing more thanks to the author's sweet writing style. These subtleties made the reading experience not only much better, but they also meant a new and more complex side to this kind of relationship beyond the power play. To me, this man became real, concerned about the welfare of his lover, and not only in the game for his own gain. That was hot in itself!

The tension of the scenes are built up exponentially, which makes for a very rewarding, slow anticipation before the actual act is consumed. Beautiful. Atticus is commanding but warm, and the combination is insanely addictive. I liked Gin (Virginia) too, she's competent, kind, loving, but also afraid and lonely.

The author creates a very detailed, sensitive rendition of the emotional intimacy that grows between Doms and subs that have a true connection. Even when they're only playing scenes, the Doms are knowledgeable and caring. With Gin, and Atticus, the interactions are sweet, intense and hot. The man's understanding of Gin's confusion and emotional turmoil is so compelling and well-described that could be considered a bit unsettling for the reader, not in a bad or scary way, but in the sense that it makes oneself reassess old-fashioned notions of what this kind of relationship entails.

Not only the steamy scenes were delicious, there is also a good story in there. I got to know the characters well, and I loved how their backgrounds collide and spark trouble that's meaningful. For example, she's trying to avoid a pattern that makes her strive too hard for approval from a man, whereas he carries with him fear and shame from an abusive stepfather as well as a trauma. Besides, their respective jobs throw a surprising plot twist at the end.

Unexpectedly, the story grew into a deeply engrossing tale of trust, rooted fears and hope for the future. It's full of romance, emotional understanding, true love and friendship, and ends with an impressive display of action and thriller scenes that thoroughly delighted me.
