Hi, book buddies :-) It's been a while since I read a book by Lisa Renee Jones. I missed her smart style. No worries. Here is a new book that sheds some light into one intriguing story.

MY OPINION

Intense intimacy and deep connection. I felt both of these things deeply while reading this book, part 2 in The Dalton Family trilogy. I've been eagerly awaiting the continuation of Sophia and Ethan's story because their romance is very passionate, yet also laced with emotional turmoil.

One of my favourite things about it is that Sophia's business dreams are paramount in the plot. She's a fashion designer with a store and plans for the future. Ethan is an investor and their relationship is fraught with trust issues, overwhelming feelings and open-hearted conversations. Very engaging.

In this second book, they really open up about everything. They are laying the foundations of their blooming relationship and it's both exhilarating and honest. Family is key as well, so they have to deal with their respective families and the business and emotional circumstances they bring with them.

I found everything to my interest and kept me curious about its evolution. I liked how patient Ethan is, calm and reasonable but also focused, loving and smart. I understand why Sophia is so hesitant to the point of fear. She is risking too much and has to deal with all her vulnerabilities in order to trust completely. I like how this process is going with this couple really talking and making plans for their future.

Things they have been working on really get somewhere towards the end when that nagging advice from Ethan to Sophia ends up happening. In spite of it, it still cuts to the bone. Let's see how it pans out in the next book. Will we have to wait too long? I hope not.

MY OPINION

This is a good story. Gripping, powerfully written. It feels intimate, even philosophical. 

A man with evil secrets and an innocent woman in danger because of his deeds. They end up crashing on an island. You should totally read The Crash, which is a fantastic prologue. 

This first part of a trilogy focuses on the pull they feel towards each other, but also the mortal surroundings that seem like a renewed biblical paradise with its own kind of snake. It is primal. It is full of guilt and sensuality and instincts against reason.

I liked reading it because I immersed myself in the heat, the jungle and basic human needs. Yet it also felt a bit repetitive as the inner dialogue of the characters goes over the same things again and again. Also, they are too drenched in lust for people who are fighting for their lives every step of their way through the jungle.  And there's a surprising character thrown in in the middle who also happens to want part of the fun (not what I envisioned nor desired).

A little messy, but intense and intriguing enough to want to find out the mystery behind the plot. It might have a porno vibe and a shocking cliffhanger. You are warned ;-)

MY OPINION

I am in awe of this crafty plot and its flawless execution. Bravo. Having read the whole series, I consider myself a devoted fan. This addition about the younger son in the Hale family is up there on the podium in terms of hot and clever.

Redemption, revenge, love and forgiveness, all wrapped up in a sleek plot of secrets, safe-cracking, and corruption. Emery and Vance ignite a fire together, and the slow-burning relationship becomes smoldering and steamy thanks to a trick that makes abstinence the best foreplay that was ever invented.

I loved this couple with their instant chemistry, playful dialogues, and cautious yet hopeful longings. It was amazing to see the Hale family revel in their happiness and also struggle yet succeed with their mistakes and painful growth. Oh, but the best is the plot itself that carries the couple through a maze of intrigue punctuated by lush luxury and lavish lifestyle.

Emery is an admirable self-made woman with a skill that teeters on the edge of crime that made me excited. Together, she and Vance devise an ambitious and dangerous plan to defeat an insidious enemy. And both the accomplishment and the twists that stem from that plan are impressive. Worthy of a thriller or an Ocean's Eleven movie. Not to outshine the most romantic and beautiful ending that I could have wished for. It's not as dark or naughty as the original trilogy, though it is equally hot and smart. Wonderful book!
