The moment I got that email, I swore my days of being a broke indie author were officially over.

I bought a new house, traveled, splurged on things I definitely didn’t need… and, um—kind of forgot to actually write the book.

By the time my deadline rolled around, I had almost nothing to show for it. My endless “Just need a little more time for my muse” excuses weren’t cutting it anymore.

So, I swallowed my pride and came clean—while hatching a plan to get “inspiration” and pay back some of the advance at the same time. The plan? Get a job at the very publishing company that gave me the deal, so I could:

 

1) Make money to keep a roof over my head.

2) Start repaying the advance.

3) Gather firsthand material for the office romance I was two years late delivering.

 

It sounded like a good idea… until I actually got the job.

Until I realized the CEO of the publishing house was an arrogant, cunning wolf in a bespoke suit—

The same man I told to f*ck off two nights ago.

The same man I may have thrown a drink on (but that’s a story for another day).

Now I swear being his so-called “intern” is an exercise in hell… and from the way he’s circling me, I have no intention of being his prey.

MY OPINION of WOLFISH PLAYER

I love this kind of novella. I know it's going to be filled with laughs and a challenging couple. Heather and Adrian didn't disappoint. She comes up as a bit unhinged and he cannot be bothered to be polite even if it kills him. However, I smiled and laughed a few times with their belligerent relationship. 

I absolutely loved the office romance combined with the publishing industry. It's crazy fun. Writer's block, launching campaigns and book tours take here a sometimes dreamy and oftentimes chaotic turn. The CEO is a devil and his employees are saints, but they love their work because writing and reading stories is the best thing ever. Yay.

I read the story in one go to enjoy the passion for romance stories, readers's commitment to cliffhangers, the author's wild sense of humor and the twisty ending. Steamy, sardonic, fun. Perfect.

Breaking all the Rules: sassy love story

Hi, book buddies. I have a penchant for steamy romantic stories. I do. Not ashamed of that. So when I came across the opportunity to read and review this novella, I didn't hesitate a bit. And I was rewarded with an experience even better than I expected.

TOP REASONS TO READ

1- Sassy, quirky, rebel female character

2- exquisitely erotic narrative

3- handsome, tortured, sweet hunk of a male character

4- you'll just love every single word (and squirm a lot)

Nathan and Camille are complete opposites: he, the Iceman, all for control and no emotional attachments. Too dangerous for him. There's a reason for that self-imposed shield and she's going to find out why.

She's a hacker, a born-and-bred hippie. She's never conformed to rules nor lack of love. The sexy, aloof executive is going to prove difficult to crack, but she's in for the challenge. In the process is all the fun!

I was beyond tempted by this novella. The intimate encounters are openly brazen, but there's a touching love story in here too. Even though the descriptions are graphic, they are also unbelievably tender due to the fact that a relationship is developing between two people who really need each other.

I was drawn to the author's writing style. Her voice is provocative and sensorial just like Camille. What a lovely character! I've absolutely fallen in love with her non-conformist, free-spirited personality. She's smart, challenging, compassionate and so likeable! And Nate, oh, the Iceman. He's the puzzle every woman wants to solve.

I loved it when Nate didn't know how to cope with Camille's unpredictable attitude. It was very exciting to watch their relationship bloom from unresolved fears to a perfect, thrilling fit. 

This is one of those books of which I'd be happy to have a print copy, so that I could touch it, feel it and just open on a random page and be joyful all over again.

Fun for Christmas

 Hello, book buddies :-) Just saying hello, happy holidays and a little extra about a cute and super funny novella that's perfect for this time of year.

I've been awaiting this moment for a year solely for the purpose of reading this novella. I'm that excited! :-D

With this author's style, you can expect an over-the-top and hilarious story. It's filled with unbelievable banter and crazy maneuvers that made me shake my head in wonder. I've never seen any work relationship like this, especially between a boss and his bad employee. That's what makes it so funny. I laughed quite a few times. 

The characters push and pull. He's rich and arrogant, but you can see how much he lets her get away with which is both funny and tender. She refuses to acknowledge any attraction or intimacy towards him. However, the plot gets so twisted that they end up in very close quarters with more room for engaging misunderstandings in a Christmas setting and even hot encounters. It all cracked me up. 

I loved it as much as the first one. It's a little series of novellas, and the third one is coming next year. I want that one, too!

MY OPINION

I bet crashing on an island with a hot alpha male is going to be your best summer fantasy this year.

Hot fires ignite when the couple meets. From the instant this Morelli pops up in the scene, there's this feeling of danger and doom in the air. 

The best thing about him is how his hard muscles and harder personality are instinctively drawn towards the sunny, cute photographer in his hands for the duration of the flight. And he's the pilot! With lots of dark secrets! And then the plane crashes and they are stranded together! 

This is too much to bear without an outlet.

 Fear not, for adrenaline and survival on an island are a powerful aphrodisiac. Where will that lead the couple? Frenzied lust, of course. And possibly a bit of danger, too.

I absolutely want to read the novel after this appetizer. Come on, just read it and fangirl with me

MY OPINION

Beautiful and blissful, also gritty and dangerous. This is the best description for  this novella and in general all books by this author. I love this style.

This is a tale of longing for peace and love, of dormant passion and tortured lives, of a man and a woman who need solace in the midst of violence and uprooting.

I enjoyed it for many reasons, including the fact that it links with the Rochester series. I met Marjorie and her Lighthouse Inn there, so I was happy to return to her own love story. It's touching and gorgeous on its own, though. 

A melancholy permeates the atmosphere because of loneliness, of lost loved ones and lost opportunities, yet the place that Marjorie has built for people to find haven on their journey is full of cosy warmth and welcome-to-home vibes. That's vital when a dangerous man comes to her threshold and brings menace from long ago. He is not immune to her beauty and the myriad of comforting little things she does for her guests. For the first time in his life he learns what loving care feels like. 

It is really beautiful and heart-warming to be part of their romance because it's gentle in the middle of sharp threat and evil secrets, it's erotic and needy and intense while they fight for their lives and their hearts. 

I loved Marjorie. She's sweet, good, caring. She has a hobby that tugs at the heart and is also very creative. It encompasses all that she is and what life has taken from her. And Sam is a formidable man, an antihero who yearns for a glimpse of domestic paradise with a woman he doesn't deserve. So romantic!

“Tell me more about you, Marjorie Dunn.”

“I like it here in Eben Cape.” She watches me carefully as she says this. Worried I might reject this idea, maybe. But hell. It’s nice here. It could be a home. “I tried to make a life that my parents would have been proud of. They probably never imagined I’d own an inn, but they’d like it here, I think. They’d think it was peaceful. They’d understand wanting to live in a small town. It’s beautiful, even in the winter. It’s calm. No monsters lurking in the shadows, except…”

“Except?”

Her brow furrows. “No place is perfect. I’ve met some men here who made life difficult. My friend Emily’s husband was one of those. He’s gone now.”

“Because of you?”

She snorts. “No. He got into an argument with her brother, and he was killed. It was the talk of the town last year. Made me nervous to think about people killing each other. I didn’t like that. I was relieved when things quieted down. Relieved for Emily, especially.” Marjorie finds another one of my scars and focuses on it. “Do the scars still bother you?”

“No.” It’s tough to get closer to her, but I manage another inch. “That’s the thing about scars. They grow over with tissue that doesn’t have nerve endings. They don’t feel any pain. They’re basically dead.”

“It is a little like death,” she agrees. “But you’re still alive.”

“The scars will be with me forever. Same with the hidden ones. Those wounds are covered in the same scar tissue. I don’t feel anything.”

That’s what I’ve told myself for years. It’s bullshit. I feel things looking into Marjorie’s eyes. It’s bullshit for her, too. Her wounds are there in her heart. She’s built this inn as a guard for them, and she’s been doing a damn good job.

“I wish I felt less sometimes. You know…” Another thoughtful sigh. “I’ve made a home here, but it’s not the same. Nobody ever stays for long. Maybe that’s just how life is.”

The promise is on my lips. I won’t leave.

But of course I will.

That’s the job.

That’s my life.

It’s not going to happen this minute, though. Not in the next hour. Not even today. Fuck it. I’m staying with her at least for today. I let myself indulge in the fantasy. I normally don’t do that. Imagination can keep you alive through a dark night, but this isn’t about imagination. It’s about being in this moment.

I fold my arms around the beautiful innkeeper in my bed. “Tell me more.”

MY OPINION :-)

I have so much fun with the Reindeer Falls stories. This one is the perfect final brooch in the three new stories, and it's about Lexis and Carter. 

The lovely librarian and the famous baseball player strike an extremely funny bargain where she is keeping a cute dog and he cleans his player reputation. Nothing is as it seems, though, and Christmas conspires with all its romantic tricks to bring them together in bed and in love.

I find Lexie adorably quirky, both her inner dialogue and her idea of sensual outfits are a laugh-out-loud parade. Carter is a surprisingly good guy with a teasing amount of hotness. I love them together.

Plenty of bookish delight, seasonal scenes, a dash of misunderstandings, the intervention of fate in the name of love, and an epilogue that reunites friends, brothers, and couples in a warm, satisfying wrap-up. Long live Reindeer Falls!
