¡Madre mía! Eso es lo que dije cuando me topé con esta historia romántico-erótica. ¡Tenía que leerla! Dicho y hecho, os traigo mi opinión de esta provocación con letras XD

Imaginaos esta premisa: Aria no puede ni pagar la comida en el supermercado porque su marido ha vuelto a quemar sus ahorros. Cuando vuelve a casa, se encuentra con que el jefe de éste ha descubierto un robo millonario y amenaza con denunciarlo. Hasta que posa la mirada en Aria y sus planes de venganza se mezclan con una lujuria potentísima que pone en marcha una propuesta escandalosa. Promete mantener silencio, arreglar el desaguisado, incluso evitar que pierdan la casa hipotecada. Todo a cambio de una sola cosa: una cita con Aria.

A partir de aquí, es un tiovivo de adrenalina sensual y emociones al límite que pone a Chase y Aria en un terrible aprieto. No pueden controlar sus sentimientos cuando están juntos. Chase ha creado un imperio sobre las cenizas del de su padre, a quien odia desde su infancia. Aria ha construido su vida alrededor de su matrimonio que hace aguas desde hace mucho tiempo. Cuando se conocen, el impacto es brutal. Se necesitan desesperadamente pero les asusta la potencia de su atracción.

Admito que esta pareja me ha gustado bastante. Tiene sus miedos, sus razones para tenerlos, y para luchar contra la debilidad que causan el uno en el otro, pero es inútil. El deseo es muy fuerte. Y en su ausencia, los fantasmas de sus vidas aúllan muy alto. A lo largo de la novela, de 150 páginas explosivas, va creciendo la conexión entre ellos, el poder del impulso físico y emocional que les vincula el uno a l otro. La tensión se palpa en cada escena. Resulta electrizante la forma en que su relación se va haciendo lentamente más íntima, deliciosamente más irresistible. Es bastante explícita y muy sensual.

En cuanto a lo que no me ha gustado, he notado que la autora repite la palabra "fuc*ing" en exceso. De vez en cuando está bien, pero no tan a menudo, al igual que el uso de los nombres de los protagonistas que llega a ser cansino. La última pega es que hay poco diálogo entre los gigantescos trozos de pensamientos de los personajes. Me ha gustado mucho esa descripción, está muy bien conseguida, pero se echan en falta diálogos que manifiesten la relación de una forma externa.

Eso sí, el final es esperanzador pero distinto a lo que esperaba, y me vuelvo loca por leer la siguiente parte: DAMAGES OWED. I want it!

COVEN OF THE COURTESAN, de Yolanda Shoshana, es la primera aventura de tres brujas modernas, emprendedoras y llenas de sensualidad que podrían ser perfectamente la versión hechicera de Sexo en Nueva York. 

Bast, Pixie y Lola no tienen pelos en la lengua. Buscan el éxito en el trabajo y la diversión libre por las noches. No se amilanan ante las exigencias del mundo laboral ya que cuentan con el poder de tres. Hacen hechizos, elaboran perfumes con ingredientes antiquísimos y se reúnen en su aquelarre privado para forjar planes.

En este primer relato corto, Bast está a punto de conseguir su gran y esperado ascenso. No ve venir la trampa. Un rico empresario compra la empresa donde trabaja y pone a su hijo al mando del departamento de Bast, aunque con un pequeño extra. Ella compartiría el control. A Bast y el gigoló amante de las fiestas del hijo no les hace ninguna gracia. Las chispas hormonales no se hacen esperar cuando Bast y Ramennis empiezan su batalla por la supremacía.

Es un relato tan corto que apenas me ha dado tiempo a paladearlo. Ha sido divertido, claro, y me gusta mucho el tema de la brujería mezclado con la modernísima vida de una mujer cosmopolita. Cuando las tres amigas hacen sus planes, resulta entretenido, al igual que el calor físico que van generando poco a poco los dos tórtolo-rivales mediante sus encuentros y diálogos. Tendría que leer más para que la historia se completara porque Bast y Ramennis se han quedado al borde de que su relación progrese. Se intuye que vendrán escenas de lucha por el control y de intimidad subida de tono.

 Jennifer Domenico started writing as a five-year old child in the back of her mother’s bible in church. It was a way to keep the fidgety child quiet but even then she took simple stories and twisted them into even more imaginative tales. As she grew, the stories grew with her and she filled notebook after notebook with her musings.

As an adult, she knew she wanted to be a writer but she lacked the attention span and inspiration required to produce a full length story. Eventually she put away her notebooks and turned her attention to the business world where she toiled away for many years.

She stopped reading fiction, stopped entertaining her outlandish imagination, and stopped dreaming of being a writer. Until one day, many months ago she went to sleep and a beautiful love story played out in her dreams.

When she awoke she felt compelled to write it down. And she wrote and she wrote, for days and days she wrote. The result is part one of Enzo and Ava’s story. Turn Towards the Sun is her first, but certainly not her last, novel.

Normalmente, los cambiaformas que conocemos suelen ser licántropos, pero siempre he sentido curiosidad por transformaciones en otro tipo de criaturas. Con ONCE UPON A TIGER, de Kat Simons, me he encontrado con humanos con una carga genética que les permite transformarse en tigres. En realidad, sus percepciones del entorno y su poder olfativo les acompaña en todo momento. Son una especie aparte. El problema para ellos es que han estado al borde de la extinción, debido a una peligrosamente baja tasa de nacimientos, lo que ha instigado la creación de una ley algo autoritaria. The Mate Run. 

Consiste en una carrera en la que participan varios machos que persiguen a una hembra con la que aparearse. Se supone que la hembra debe elegir a uno de los contendientes durante su periodo de celo y así promover la continuidad de la raza. Aunque parezca bastante salvaje (después de todo son depredadores y los humanos no sirven para el cruce de especies), los Mayores intentan evitar que machos enloquecidos se dediquen a acosar o incluso matar durante sus momentos de debilidad. Es un sistema que funciona más o menos.

La protagonista es Alexis, una dura Tracker que se ha entrenado para ser la mejor. Es la única mujer en su profesión. Se encarga de rastrear, perseguir y capturar a los tigres rebeldes o criminales. Perdió a sus padres siendo joven de forma violenta y desde entonces se dedica en cuerpo y alma a su trabajo. Sin embargo, le falta la esperanza de un futuro con su propia familia. Después de todo, el único hombre que le atrae es un macho defectuoso que no puede hablar. Por eso le prohíben reclamar una pareja.

La única condición que Alexis impuso al consejo de Mayores fue permanecer exenta de correr en la ceremonia de apareamiento. Hasta ahora. Sin previo aviso, seis machos acechan su territorio y reclaman una carrera. Y Alexis va a luchar hasta la muerte por impedirlo.

La premisa de este relato es provocativa y divertida. Por un lado, pone de manifiesto los impulsos más básicos de la naturaleza para dar rienda suelta a la sensualidad. Por el otro, genera una sociedad paralela en la que una raza paranormal vive según las normas biológicas de los tigres. Eso me ha gustado bastante, lo bien definidos y adaptados a la simbiosis humana que están los comportamientos animales. La autora es bióloga y ha tenido en cuenta la importancia de los olores y la territorialidad a la hora de manejar las reacciones, costumbres y objetivos de los protagonistas. Hay escenas de acción entrelazadas con los momentos más eróticos ya que Alexis tiene que enfrentarse a los tigres más insistentes para salvaguardar su independencia. Su personalidad es dominante como corresponde tanto a un tigre como a una mujer que ha tenido que luchar sus propias batallas. El coprotagonista masculino ha tenido que renunciar también a sus sueños porque no puede hablar y se le considera material genético defectuoso. Aunque no duda en venir a apoyar a Alexis cuando está amenazada.

A pesar de que Víctor no se comunica con la voz, me ha gustado la forma en que se relacionan él y Alexis. Encuentran la forma y, aunque hay mucho encuentro fogoso, también va más allá de los tres días del celo. Comparten una vida de sueños frustrados. Es un relato corto bastante bien estructurado. La autora logra darle dinamismo con diálogos, acción y la conspiración del consejo que ayuda a redondear la trama al tiempo que otorga solidez a la sociedad de los tigres.

A Week in Milan: sensualidad a la italiana + sorteo

¡Saludos, lectores! Dado mi reciente regreso a las letras in English, hoy os traigo una reseña de un relato corto en inglés. Estas historietas rápidas e intensas sirven para satisfacer el deseo de completar una historia en poco tiempo. ¡Me encanta!

A WEEK IN MILAN, de Aimée Duffy, es un relato con un nivel de inglés intermedio que hará las delicias de quienes, como yo, disfrutan con un romance que eche humo. Amanda es una joven diseñadora que está a punto de alcanzar su sueño de éxito total en la moda. Sus jefes son una hermana y un hermano que se han hecho a sí mismos. Cuando la oportunidad de ir a Milán a la semana de la moda se presenta, Amanda está eufórica de emoción, pero tiene que pensar en si puede apartarse de su hijo pequeño tanto tiempo. La duda le asalta, pero finalmente le deja a cuidado de su hermana y aprovecha el viaje para aprender, entrar en contacto con la dinámica y sofisticada moda italiana y... un tercer elemento que la deja temblando. 

Gio.

Su jefe. Morenazo. Elegante. Educado.

Un tiarrón con el que comparte fantasías candentes... en sus sueños diurnos.

Tanto Amanda como Gio se comprometen internamente a resistir la tentación. Hay muchos obstáculos de por medio. Ella ha sufrido por la constante paliza psicológica de su ex-marido y él tiene un pasado familiar que ha roto su fe en sí mismo. Menos mal que, a pesar de sus reticencias, el todopoderoso SEÑOR DESEO no les deja ni a sol ni a sombra. Acaban teniendo unos encuentros carnales que les ponen las neuronas del revés. Sin embargo, todas sus suspicacias salen a la luz y frustran cada acercamiento.

La parte sexy está muy bien, claro. Sólo tengo que pensar en cierta escena con chocolate y ya me sale la sonrisita tontorrona en una comisura de la boca. Nunca dejan de dar en el clavo estos relatos románticos, pero además está repleto de buenas vibraciones. El enamoramiento entre los protagonistas responde no sólo al atractivo físico, sino a la necesidad de encontrar un alma gemela que complemente lo que les falta y ha fallado en su vida. Gio tiene miedo de su herencia familiar, mientras que Amanda ha sido anulada por una relación negativa. Curiosamente huyen de lo que en realidad podría curarles. Este tira y afloja es frustrante pero vibrante. Además, como tiene lugar en Italia, hay una escena en que Gio enseña a Amanda un lugar muy especial en Milán con gran connotación artística y emotiva. Me ha encantado ese detalle. Y aunque los dos protagonistas son hermosos, también sufren de muchas inseguridades, físicas o psicológicas, que los hace humanos y dignos de compasión. En resumen, una excitante y bien construida relación amorosa 

Hay varios retos de lecturas en inglés para este año en la blogosfera y podéis ver algunos a los que me he apuntado en ¿LEEMOS IN ENGLISH?. Si estáis deseando hincar el diente a este idioma, os recomiendo empezar por relatos cortos. Es maravillosamente adictivo y satisfactorio.

For as long as I can remember, I've had a good book in my hands. In primary school I loved Roald Dahl. In high school my English teacher introduced me to Charles Dickens, Stephen King, Jane Austin, Emily Bronte, and Shakespeare. It was then that I discovered my love for romance and I've wanted to pen my own imaginary heroes and heroines for others to enjoy ever since. Only in the last few years was I lucky enough to meet some fabulous and encouraging people to help me gain the skills to make that dream possible.

I live in sunny Scotland in a small town near the Ochils and work nine to five in a solicitors office. In my free time, you'll find me on Facebook, stalking *cough* following friends on Twitter, and may even catch me shoe shopping.

Desde luego, hay relatos cortos que podrían alargarse para nuestro gran placer, pero a pesar de la brevedad, éste es muy completo y me ha hecho pasar un buen rato. Me he reído con las ocurrencias de Jenna, la amiga de Melinda, porque no se corta un pelo en las situaciones más bochornosas. El tema físico es muy explícito y totalmente adictivo. Los dos protagonistas llevan mucho tiempo conteniendo la pasión y se nota en sus encuentros (varios y ricos en detalle) de los que disfrutan con tanta fogosidad como para empañar cualquier superficie cercana. Por supuesto, el fin de toda relación es siempre el amor, así que todos esos bailes ardientes van conduciendo a la declaración de sentimientos justa para dejarte temblando de emoción.

On her very first school report her teacher said ‘Nicole likes to tell her own stories’.

It wasn’t until after the birth of her daughter and after having fun on the community board of eharlequin.com that she finally decided to take the plunge and write a book.

The stories she writes are contemporary romances with either a medical setting or in the boardrooms of high powered business. Nicole enjoys taking two characters and creating unique situations for them.

Apart from writing Nicole is busy looking after her very own hero – her wonderfully supportive husband, and her two fabulous kids.
