Fall into the LAP OF LUXURY

Hi, book buddies :-) I always get very excited about any book by Brianna Hale. I love her intense and romantic writing. And her heroes are unforgettable. Let yourself fall in the Lap of Luxury...

MY OPINION 

I am astounded. I was expecting dark romance, but this goes beyond the norm into ironic, witty, psychological territory that breaks boundaries between fun and wrong, hot and morbid, emotional and insane. 

Ever imagined a psycopath with a soul and a prudish lady with macabre tendencies falling in love like puzzles from hell? This could be something like that 😂

Damir Ravnikar is a well-dressed brute, with a honed sense of revenge and a twisted sensual streak. He is the charismatic psycopath who teeters between the demented need for revenge out of a feeling of betrayal and this profound craving for his brother’s assistant. Bethany is the efficient orphan who gets aroused by violent danger with a proclivity to deviate into primitive coupling. That combination, my curious friends, is a masterpiece of entertainment. 

What really cracked me up and enraptured me is that the author came up with a deconstruction of the whole horror film genre from the perspective of a hot-blooded female more interested in rutting than dying. That Predator fantasy was stolen right out my own filthy imagination! I think all the horror films should be re-shot to that new code 😆😈 

Sumptuous settings, a sleek and villanous atmosphere, devious manipulation mingling with action-packed plot twists, a madman hellbent on vengeance and a woman in love with her monster of choice. This story of two brothers lost in a vendetta links with the first novel and ties both romances in a knot of blood, sex, soulmates, hatred and hope with a touch of dark humour and loads of steamy times. One of a kind and terribly addictive. I don’t know about you, but I might look for my own good times in the next horror flick I watch 😄

Loving ANYONE BUT RICH

Hi, book buddies :-) How are you doing? Since I read the Objects of Desire series, I have been stalking Penelope Bloom. Guess what! New book :-D

MY OPINION

Hilarious and entertaining. I am excited to go back to this author’s surreal sense of humour. This story about three girlfriends and three brothers is so promising! I couldn’t resist it.

The writing is light and inviting, the plot is full-packed of fun dialogues especially when the girls are overreacting because of the twin brothers who are also ridiculously naughty. Nick is still the nice little enigma to discover. Though I'm intrigued by his genius and his glasses 

I liked the way it started with a pact among the friends to steer away from the taboo brothers. The reason was mysterious for a big part of the novel. I laughed a lot because of the brothers' antics or Kira's attitude and her spontaneous reactions. Stella, the ice queen, was also amazing. I liked the  dynamics of the relationship between Kira and Rich, his drive and her resistance, but I can't say that there was real chemistry. I didn't feel sparks. A pity. 

Fortunately, that changed as soon as they got to the steamy times. Yay! I loved their first time together, it was intense and sweet and opened up a can of plot twists as crazy as a circus and some very sensual shenaningans. 

Most of the story is pure comedy with a second chance romance air and some pretty hysterical conflicts. The pact of the three friends add a good unifying sense to what's going to be a story for each brother. I ended up liking Rich a lot as the author gave him a few interesting lines about the price of fame and social image. 

The relationship between Kira and Rich was full of friendly banter at first, but it finally bloomed into a hot crush that I enjoyed as much as the really crazy ending and the humour. I thought the last scene with the parents was over the top, but I finished the story with a smile on my face and looking forward to the next book.

Hi, book buddies :-) How are you doing? I am going to tease you with a new story from J. Kenner. She's always hitting this blog :-D

MY OPINION

Entertaining and sensual. This series about the men at the Blackwell-Lyon security firm is very appealing to me. Leo's story has to do with meaningful relationships and disappointing his friend. 

A male point of view is always a treat. We get to see his inner struggle as he fights a forbidden attraction towards his friend's little sister. Leo is tired of meaningless hook-ups, but his powerful chemistry with Samantha erodes most of his convictions. I liked the setting at a wedding venue for a weekend. The scenes were well developed where this fake couple gets closer over talks, good memories and wild desire. They certainly add a new meaning to school games 

There's also a little plot twist which involved this man's skills at the end before they claim their happily ever after. I thought it was too soon when he said the coveted I Love You, but the rest of the story felt very natural and fluid. Not my favourite in the series, but still very entertaining.

ENJOY AN EXCERPT 

I pull open the screen door, knock a couple of times, and wonder if I’ll even recognize her. A moment later, the door flies open, and I’m staring at Samantha Watson’s wide, happy grin. Her dark brown hair is pulled back beneath a blue bandana, and there’s a white streak of paint on her cheek that makes me think of street urchins. 

She’s at least three inches taller than the last time I saw her, the top of her head now reaching my chin. In my mind, she’s still built like a pre-teen fence post, but to be fair, I can’t get any real sense of her figure since she’s wearing a paint-splattered men’s button-down that doubles as a smock and baggy, faded jeans. I can see her face just fine, though. The same, but different. Her wide brown eyes seem bigger and darker, with the kind of lashes that Cayden’s wife Gracie wears when she’s modeling, but on Sam are the real deal. The childish round face that’s burned into my memories has given way to a perfect oval accented by cheekbones that stand out when she smiles. 

Something she’s doing right now, actually, and I can’t help but notice that her plump lips and wide mouth were made for smiling. And for other things. Things that I have no business noticing about my best friend’s sister. Not even in passing. Not even casually. I’m still lecturing myself when she steps forward, obviously intending to give me a hug. And, damn me, I actually take a step back, her lush lips still filling my vision and Brody’s all-too-strict warning still ringing in my ears. To my relief, she laughs. “I know. Awkward, right? I mean, you were like my brother, but it’s been ages. Probably best to start out with a friendly handshake and work our way up to social hugging.” She thrusts out her hand, and I take it, noticing how well it fits into mine, and surprised at how smooth her skin is despite the fact that she apparently spends a lot of time working with her hands.

“From what Brody tells me,” I say, “we won’t be stopping at the social hug.” It might be my imagination, but I think her grip tightens slightly. Not that I have time to analyze the nuances of our connection, because she gently tugs her hand free. She clears her throat, then steps aside and ushers me into the house. “Listen, thank you so much. I know this whole thing must sound crazy, and I can’t even tell you how much it means to me that you agreed to do it.” “I didn’t—” “I know. Brody told me the whole story about how you didn’t want to, but then you remembered how you two pledged to look out for me. And even though I’m old enough to look out for myself now, I really, really appreciate this.” She pauses, looking me over once more before she shuts the front door and gestures me further into the house. I hesitate, because this is the moment when I should tell her that I need to leave so that I can go strangle her brother. The guy never could keep a secret. 

“It’s not that I didn’t want to help…,” I trail off lamely as she flashes me a crooked smile. “I believe you. Why wouldn’t you want to go off to Fredericksburg to a weekend wedding hosted by people you’ve never met with a woman you haven’t seen since she was a kid, but now you’ll have to pretend to be her fiancé even though you don’t even know her favorite color?” “When you put it that way, I must be crazy.”

MY OPINION

Prim and proper meets Irish brogue and rugged charm.

Flirty, light, fun, and as steamy as a hot kettle.

If you want to have a good time and a smile on your face non-stop, this is the book to read.

Rom-Com with a quick pace, a couple that has efervescent chemistry, and a quirky plot that you root for no matter how ridiculous it should be in real life. Drunken marriage in Vegas? Sure, just the perfect prelude to everlasting love. Totally acceptable, and please give me more :-D

The banter betwen Mari and Liam is delicious. She might be a good girl, but she melts when she is confronted by Liam's tempting masculinity. In close quarters, this hard-in-all-the-right-places man is too hot to resist. From a drunken mistake, they end up keeping up the charade of this marriage for a reason that I found adorable and made me love Liam all the more. Mari is cute and is looking for a brigther future than her safe-at-all-costs mentality has led her to up until now. I think this couple is made for each other despite the odds. He is against marriage? No biggie, Mari will change his mind and his heart with all her red-haired cuteness ;-)

The cheeky dialogues combine with a woman's journey to free herself from emotional baggage that's hindering her happiness. I really liked that. And it surprised me how hot and posseessive Liam ends up being towards his unintended wife when at first he had reneged from it all. Wow, those sheets are set on fire!

The ending is so romantic, funny and naughty too, and it hints at promising things to come. I'm hooked! <3
