MY OPINION

Dark and depraved and utterly sensual.

All throughout the novel, I've been torn between dreading Gabriel Miller's furious ownership, and falling for it. He burns like fire, hypnotizes like it, too.

Avery is fighting for her freedom and sanity, but she has to love and protect herself from the man who owns her heart, her body, her mind and her future. It's so intense, this ardent and dangerous relationship. The narrative is pure senses, poetic and carnal at the same time.

The Castle is a mesmerizing finale for a great trilogy. It's teeming with twisted mysteries that get darkly tangled before dissolving everything like acid and leaving havoc in its wake. Avery is one heroine that is doomed like Pandora to uncover the ugly demons inside an evil god's box. 

I couldn't have foreseen the amount of grief and horror that was lurking inside, or the catharsis that shakes both Avery and Gabriel, tests them to the point of destruction, beyond and back. Still, through all the blood, the cruelty, the betrayal, there's incredible beauty in the love that is finally born in the last pages. Checkmate.

`The unbearable beauty of surrender´

And the power of dark sensuality.

Sometimes I just NEED to read a certain book. Otherwise I get angry. This author's books... pure necessity.

F*ck. That word has filled my head during the entirety of this novel. This novel which has made me tremble.

It's written with a mesmerizing sense of fairy-tale wonder turned into horror where monsters lurk inside ruthless business men dressed in expensive suits. Well, I marveled and dreaded that man. Gabriel Miller.

He's chillingly cold, scarily ardent.

The crude dialogues, the despair of a woman who's lost everything but keeps fighting to retain a resemblance of what she loved, the intimacy of the narrative plagued with vulnerability and dark manipulation.

I was really excited to read this second book, utterly intrigued to know more about Gabriel and if he'd redeem himself for all the dark deeds against Avery. He behaves like a mastermind of chess with real-life pawns, yet other times he pounces on his `little virgin´ like a predator.

I was entranced by the emotional war that's going on in Avery's head, at odds with her inexplicable attraction to his dominance.

It's an accomplishment when an author creates a story where a man hurts the heart of a woman but ignites her body, and yet you crave every second of the magnetic pull of the story. The end of the first novel left me as devastated as Avery. I was hoping for Gabriel to redeem himself somewhat in this second part, and we definitely get to know him in lurid, dark, perfectly amazing detail.

And Avery suffers so many deadly secrets being thrown against her! She's also a phoenix rising from her ashes, stronger, smarter and wiser. 

Next will be The Castle, and I'm oh so ready for it.

MY OPINION

A Faustian pact with a sensual devil.

Mesmerizing, like a predator's eyes at night. That's how I felt when reading this beautifully dark story.

Gabriel Miller exudes dangerous power and his prey is a vulnerable, desperate damsel-in-distress. She is so innocent and strong, and he is darkness personified. OMG, that combo gives me so many kinds of thrills! And is masterfully crafted by the author.

The writing flows, impeccable and soulful. On the verge of total ruin and degradation, Avery agrees to an outrageous ultimatum that will lead her into a maze of wrongs and betrayals. Auctioned to the highest bidder, she ends up as the prized possession of her father's enemy. I was trembling along with her , so helpless and beautiful and pure when she's exposed and sold in front of merciless rich people.

The subject matters of this novel contrast so sharply with the delicacy of the emotions in the narrative. There is a strong sense of threat in every scene, yet also a pulsing bonding between Gabriel (gorgeous name) and Avery. I relished his foreboding presence, laden with furious and conflicting reactions to his human purchase.

Interwoven with the duel of wills, references of art, myth and longing for the unattainable mark this story with stunning depths. It's a game of chess that bleeds into real life. Avery and Gabriel play with fire, so sensually, so poignantly. I was enthralled with the secrets, the shocking manipulations, the tender intelligence of Avery facing a hardened strategy master like Gabriel. I've never seen chess played like that!

I also laughed at what happens the first night after the auction, and I literally screamed my throat raw at the ending of this first book in the Endgame series. Amazing. I need some redemption here. Like air itself.
