This serial is at the top of my list, book buddies. You know how much I like my dose of emotional, sexy romance in a novella-sized package. And THE VIGILANTE'S LOVER, by Annie Winters and Tony West, has been an amazing discovery! Now the whole series is out there and you've run out of excuses not to check it out ;o)
This four-part romantic suspense series stars a hard-line Vigilante spy who gets tangled up with an innocent civilian with a mysterious past. Author Annie Winters is a four-time USA Today bestselling author under her other pen names Deanna Roy and JJ Knight. This is her first romantic suspense series.
The knots get
really tight before they become loose. This episode, people! It's amazing. It's
hot. It's bigger and better and I want more.
Jax and Mia
are in the worst situation ever. Even though they're separated, they go through
similar troubles. The conspiracy that lurks behind Jax's persecution is getting
hotter, putting both of them at higher risks than ever.
I was greatly
surprised by the insight about what happened in the past that linked Jax and
his nemesis, Jovana. Again, I'm awed by the perfect combination of thriller
scenes and astounding James-Bond technology. Each chapter is narrated from
either Jax or Mia's POV, ending at the right moment to urge you on and make you
squirm.
Both the
action and the obvious connection between Mia and Jax are exhilarating at this
point. Jax behaves like a first-class hero while Mia proves her worth in this
cutthroat, fast world of spies, crime-fighters and impossibly cutting-edge
technology. They make an incredible team. I loved to see them work together,
finally in synch against a twisted conspiracy that ends with a bang and lots of
spilled secrets.
It's been an
amazing serial full of thrilling action sequences and sensuality, so after that
bittersweet ending I feel I'm going to miss the Vigilante world with a
vengeance. Hopefully, Jax and Mia will come back for a proper goodbye? Pretty
please?
Spies, vengeance, and one seriously well-dressed man
"If Bourne dressed like Bond and acted like Grey, you'd have Jax De Luca."
An addictive new romantic suspense series from the desk of USA Today bestselling author Deanna Roy/JJ Knight
Mia trembles as she reads the letter that arrives from Ridley Prison.
Seduction. Bondage ropes. Descriptions of things Mia has never experienced or known.
The man’s words are desperately passionate. He longs for a woman who must have given him a fake address. Mia’s address.
She plans to send the letter back. He’s a convicted felon.
But his words gnaw at her. She’s never done anything dangerous. And no man has ever talked to her like this.
So Mia writes him, pretending to be the woman he desires.
It's her one dark thrill in her dull, solitary small-town life.
The man is in prison for another fifteen years.
It's harmless. She is safe enough.
Until he escapes.

Vigilante’s
Lover #1: Jax Arrives
I turn to the
box of the letters from the prisoner, wondering if I can handle reading one
more before I go to sleep. Maybe my dreams will be full of Jax De Luca. I lift
my hand in the air, the long cotton sleeve of the old-fashioned nightgown
sliding to my elbow. I giggle, imagining my wrist tethered to the bedpost.
I’m just not the
sort of girl made for BDSM novels.
But Jax doesn’t
know that. I can say anything I want to when I write him. He’s locked away.
He’ll never know.
My eyes are
heavy. For a little while, I drift in a twilight sleep. The letters ruffle
through my thoughts. The cool silk of a well-made rope sliding around my wrist.
The tickle of a sheet as it slips across my body.
Then I’m awake.
Wide awake.
The light on me
is harsh.
My arms are
immobile.
Both wrists are
tight against the bedposts.
My breasts and
belly are crisscrossed with red rope over my white gown.
One ankle is
tethered to the knob at the base of the bed.
My other leg is
in the air, lifted by an arm.
An arm in a
slick pale gray suit.
A suit connected
to a man with a scruffy beard and dark, impenetrable eyes.
“Good evening,”
says a deep voice.
Oh, God. Who is
it?
I can’t speak. I
can’t breathe.
My nightgown is
riding up, exposing my leg. The man tucks my ankle on his shoulder.
“Who…are…you?” I
finally ask.
“I think you
know who I am.” He reaches down for the sheaf of letters and flings them across
my body.
“Jax?”
“The one and
only.”
“But you’re in
prison.” My eyes dart to my body, the rope, the white pages, and his lean body
in the silk suit.
His grin spreads
wide.
“Not anymore.”
A VERY INTERESTING ARTICLE ON KNOTS AND ROPES
Bondage,
knot tying, and beautiful beautiful ropes
By
Annie Winters, author of The Vigilante’s Lover
One of the
things we decided early on in Vigilante’s
Lover is that both Jax and Mia would be experts in tying knots.
That meant *we*
had to become experts in tying knots.
Thankfully, Tony
was a Boy Scout. And I have actually attended bondage workshops with a real
Dom.
So Tony had a
wide knowledge of practical applications of rope tying.
And I knew how
those ties could apply to a romantic situation.
We found a very
helpful book in Des Pawson’s book Knots:
The Complete Visual Guide. When I turned to page 80, which is dog eared and
my book opens to it automatically now, I knew we had the knot that would be the
theme of the book.
It’s called a
True Lover’s Knot. It’s made by binding two different strands of ropes together
in a single beautiful tie. I began practicing making it, and the image of the
knot in red and black is at the end of Vigilante’s
Lover.
Along the way,
we’ve learned about French Whipping Knots and Timber Hitches, and had a great
time with the double entendres and hidden meanings in the ties we’ve found. The
knots became a secret code between Jax and Mia. When things get super tough and
it seems the bad guys have the upper hand, the knots are literally a tie that
binds them.
Most of my books
have some sort of new knowledge I need to acquire. I’ve trained with MMA
fighters and followed doctors on rounds and learned how to clean a carburetor
in the name of research. But the knot tying has been a beautiful and satisfying
new skill for us. And just wait until you read some scenes that combine the
ties and the sexytimes!
