Lately, there is a flood of stories about stepbrothers, but let me confess something to you. I'm still new to the topic and I'm craving it! ;o) Get ready for THE OTHER BROTHER, because this story is packed with pent-up emotions, sexy times and an evil danger.
I've had the chance to read parts 1 and 2, and boy, am I happy.
An interesting mixture of intrigue and romance, this novel is a quick read about a teen girl who feels an untoward attraction to her bad boy stepbrother. Nothing really happens between them, but the connection simmers under the radar until a fateful night when he acts on a protective impulse and changes everyone's lives.
I'm a fan of dual point of view. It lets you into both the woman and man's mind and you're able to understand their motivations better. Otherwise, you're left in the dark too often. I liked how Seth and Allegra evolve thanks to a hard decision on his part.
Despite how short it is, the plot is nicely done. The characters are also well defined. I liked Seth's intensity, his unwavering instinct to protect the girl he craves but cannot touch. I like that Allegra is divided by her emotions, her dark need for the man who's destroyed her family for no apparent reason, and her hatred which has turned her lie upside down.
Them, her brother Theo is quite the surprise and I'm really looking forward to finding out how he will act on his dirty little urges.
One of my favourite parts is the first intimate encounter between Allegra and Seth. So sensual and enticing, but also dramatic. As I finished this part, I was thinking how frustrated it was not to have the second part at hand. Though I'm all for cliffhangers! Totally recommended if you like partially taboo, completely mysterious and sexy novellas with a spark of kink and a lot of promise.
Luckily for me, I could read the second part, TABOO, almost right away! :o)
I still had fresh in my mind the gloriously wicked reunion that Seth and Allegra had in the dark. Een more in my mind was the slightly chilling presence of Allegran's brother, a mean man that's about to be unleashed.
As much as I wanted to see that happening, I was more excited about the way Seth and Allegra's relationship would proceed in those naughty terms we got a glimpse at in part 1. OMG, it was so worth the wait! I felt the tension, the prey-predator anticipation, the exhilarating release. So good!
As I said before, the dual POV is a bonus. I love to see how both characters feel and think. Allegra is confused, but trying to pull herself together while her two brothers collide with her in the middle. Seth is one hot man intent on protecting and claiming the only woman who has ever moved him. It was gripping to see the way they hurt each other, the way the gravitate to each other.
The sexy times are just amazing. The scene at the hotel is all senses and tingling. Oh, Allegra, you lucky girl. Taboo is a really good episode that ends on a thrilling and menacing note. I loved it with all my heart. Where's part 3 now?
From two New York Times bestselling authors comes a stunning tale of betrayal and blood...
Simple. The consummate good girl, this is the word I used to describe my life... until my stepbrother Seth came to live with us. Until that point, I’d been a very good girl... but my older, emotionally blocked stepbrother made me want to do very bad things. With him. In the course of one night everything changed, and my simple world was torn to shreds. I wanted to hate him. I did hate him. Mostly. But now he’s back. And nothing will ever be simple again. The Other Brother is a novel told in three parts.

ABOUT THE MASTERMINDS
Lauren Hawkeye/ Lauren Jameson never imagined that she’d wind up telling stories for a living… though when she looks back, it’s easy to see that she’s the only one who is surprised. Always “the kid who read all the time”, Lauren made up stories about her favorite characters once she’d finished a book… and once spent an entire year narrating her own life internally. No, really. But where she was just plain odd before publication, now she can at least claim to have an artistic temperament.
Lauren lives in the Rocky Mountains of Alberta, Canada with her husband, toddler, pit bull and idiot cat, though they do not live in an igloo, nor do they drive a dogsled. In her nonexistent spare time Lauren can be found knitting (her husband claims that her snobby yarn collection is exorbitant), reading anything she can get her hands on, or sweating her way through spin class. She loves to hear from her readers!
Tawny Stokes has always been a writer. From an early age, she’d spin tales of serial killers in love, vampires taking over the world, and sometimes about fluffy bunnies turned bunnicidal maniacs. An honour student in high school, with a penchant for math and English, you’d never know it by the foot high blue Mohawk and Doc Martens, which often got her into trouble. No longer a Mohawk wearer, Tawny still enjoys old school punk rock, trance, zombie movies, teen horror films, and fluffy bunnies. She lives in Canada with her fantastical daughter, two cats, and spends most of her time creating new stories for teens. Tawny also writes adult paranormal/urban fantasy fiction under the name Vivi Anna, and is an aspiring screenwriter.
I'm really a fan of serials. They keep surprising me with lots of good stories and cliffhangers. What about you, book buddies? :o)
