The Duality Principle: an original romance + giveaway

When I like a genre, I also need something else that sparks my interest, something that awakens my curiosity.

With THE DUALITY PRINCIPLE, there were several things. For starters, the title, so intriguing. How would it play out in the story? I must confess that I loved how important it was in the plot as it's Gabriella's purpose to prove it's a wrong theory. Let me explain.

She's great with numbers since she was a kid. That's a sore spot with her parents who are intent on her securing a proper husband. Kid of a geek, but more a smart mathematician in the making, she's trying to find a way to disprove this duality principle. This states that everything has a dual and can be substituted with it and still be true. For her, this is utterly illogical.

On the other hand, Connor is a bad boy and rebel on the path of recovery. He's also great with coding and programming which it's been his way out of brawls, bad habits and short hook-ups.

Ironically, these two wonderfully developed characters might be the hard evidence to actually prove the theory in dispute. they both harbour their own opposites within themselves. And these two sides are true and equally powerful.

I think people are walking paradoxes. We can crave nice and naughty without being untruthful to ourselves or the world. We are complex creatures, and that's exactly what Gabriella and Connor are discovering on their own in this nicely written story.

The author does a great job at fleshing out her main characters. They have a thorough background that fully explains who they are now and why they have certain goals. I could relate to them so easily, I liked them a lot. Gabby is chasing a fantasy she fears she has to give up. Those yearnings to let go of inhibitions and experience wild passion seem to be impossible to fulfill as a long line of tepid boyfriends have taught her. Meanwhile, Connor is afraid to become just like his father in all his wretched, bad-boy glory.

I loved the private thoughts that let me know the characters' personality and fears so well. I loved their dialogues, the space in between while try to gauge each other's real self, and I loved their steamy times together.

Refusing to acknowledge one's desires can turn out to be damaging, but also quite an enticing plot for a story. I think The Duality Principle is romantic, sensual and dusted with little mathematical quirks that result in a very satisfying read.

FAVOURITE QUOTES:
A surefire way to fend off the sting of rejection was to simply stop expressing her wishes and, ideally, to stop feeling them altogether.
Make an island of yourself, make yourself your refuge. There is no other refuge. Make truth your island. Make truth your refuge.

The Duality Principle
by Rebecca Grace Allen
Published by: Samhain Publishing
Publication date: November 11th 2014
Genres: Erotica, Romance

Synopsis:

Sometimes A + B = O. Yes. Oh, yes. Just like that.
Gabriella Evans’s life exists in terms of logic and definitions. She’s holed up in Portland, Maine, for the summer to work on her PhD thesis, but something is screwing up her concentration: the rumble of a motorcycle every time the embodiment of her rough-and-tumble fantasies rides down her street.

When her best friend talks her into a blind date, she finds herself out with the opposite of her fantasy. He’s polite and well-mannered, yet something behind his crisply tailored shirt doesn’t add up—a rebellious gleam in his eye that piques her curiosity.

Orphaned at fifteen, Connor Starks has finally put the years of failing grades, breaking laws and breaking hearts behind him. The only holdover? His penchant for getting down and dirty in public places. But Gabriella makes him want to prove he’s become a better man.

Nothing intrigues Gabriella more than a problem she can’t solve. But the more Connor tries to bury his past, the more determined she is to uncover it. And what she finds makes all her trusty logic begin to fail her…

Warning: This book contains a summer romance, dirty talk, dockside kissing, motorcycles and tattoos. Features a rebellious nerdy girl with an appetite for outdoor sex and light spanking, and a bad boy who’s turned good…or at least he’s trying.

ABOUT THE MASTERMIND:
Rebecca Grace holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a double concentration in Creative Writing and Literary Comparison, which seemed like a good idea at the time. After stumbling through careers in entertainment, publishing, law and teaching, she’s returned to her first love: writing. A self-admitted caffeine addict and gym rat, she currently lives in upstate New York with her husband, two parakeets, and a cat with a very unusual foot fetish.
