My opinion

Highly erotic and taboo with a (un)healthy dose of family justice and mystery.

With a strong narrative, this dark romance takes the reader on a twisted journey into lust, hatred and family dynamics that could inspire the Borgias. 

The best part is the mysterious roots of the girl's fallout with her stepbrother. Why she went away, why he hates her, why she came back, and what happened to her mother. I liked the dual tension that breathes like a forbidden beast between her potential protectors or enemies, meaning, her stepfather and her stepbrother. The heat and the naughty are fully served. 

The plot includes triggering scenes of abuse and humiliation, so it takes the characters on an emotional rollercoaster, especially the young woman. They all have to deal with different toxic situations like shame, fear and jealousy. It gets intense. It also has a couple of plot twists that are both dangerous and exhilarating, though one of them is quite dark.

I have mixed feelings, though. The story has so much sex that it feels like a cheap porn movie.  I'm sure that will entice many, but to me it fell flat and I had to skip most of the numerous scenes. Indulge yourself if you're into that. I'm not in that phase of my life right now, sadly. What's more, it takes a dive into surreal revelations towards the end of the book. Not a fan of Spencer. I'd rather the story have focused on the relationship between Hugo and Aubrey.

Another thing I liked is all the family members with hints of stories and connections of their own. Combined with the menacing aura of some of them, it added flesh to the story too. Overall, it's an interesting tale that will keep you entertained if you beware of all the dark bits and the erotic fest. Or because of them.

MY OPINION

I love it when dark romance is masterfully woven with love and despair. It just works magic on my heart. This is the first book I read written under this pen name, and I loved it! From the sordid theme to the dirty, dirty hero, never forgetting how taboo the plot becomes or all the heat that would make the devil blush. It all combines perfectly.

It's not for the prim and proper, though. The characters are far from flawless. They make angry decisions and are rash and sinful. It's not a pure relationship at all. Bullying, stalking, tormenting, and loads and loads of filthy hot times. 

My heart went out to Mia because of her appalling domestic situation. She's cornered and loveless, so I wanted to comfort her. Why would hot, tattooed, cheeky Laz add to all her distress? 

Secretly, I was panting with thrill from his naughty behaviour! After all, his kind of menace is tantalizing, at least from a guilty pleasure point of view. As a story within the safe confines of a book and my own mind, he is a villain to sin for. Poor Mia never stood a chance. They fight like feral cats, a predator circling his prey, both in heat, defying rules and obligations and moral conduct around them like they are immune to punishment that isn't their own. 

You have to believe in them, though, as it teeters dangerously close to dubious territory. Yet I believed in them. Why? Because in the middle of frantic mating and ugly family dynamics, despite their age difference and lustful kinks, they torturously fall in love. 

The first part of the novel is provocative, the second part is moving as their dreams and souls become aligned, and the final part is soaring with drama, emotion, betrayal, pain and reckoning. Yeah, it's good and raw and lickable from start to finish. Give me more like this, Lilith! ;-)

MY OPINION

This is a poignant tale of grief and unorthodox love.

Tragedy strikes in the first chapters and paints the atmosphere with bleak tones. The author’s words recreate the raw, harrowing journey of bereavement with accurate detail. It's tough and touching to go through every step along with Keyne and Jasper, yet it's also therapeutic, letting you get in touch with your innermost vulnerability.

Jasper is a bad boy, a ruthless businessman, yet he's got a good soul. And his deep desire to do right by Keyne is inspiring, sweet, moving. Keyne is a young girl lost in her struggle against unthinkable loss, drowning in pain yet still gasping for a way out, a way to love and be loved.

I felt as if I got to know the characters really well, they were breathing and feeling like real people. Time passed for all of us together, sharing routines to keep us sane, conversations filled with emotional intimacy, events both about daily life and big decisions. And with each minute and every month of their lives, love was brewing and desire was pulsing.

Despite the taboo nature of this age-gap relationship, the pace made it understandable, but especially the needs of these characters as they connect and bond over not only grief but a lifetime of trust and a year of living together in complete dedication to their unique sense of family.

It comes a time when the fated, complex feelings of these tragic characters take an even more complicated turn. This happens in the second half of the book which means a radical change as in the first part we encounter hard issues of bereavement and their psychological consequences.

They fall in love while giving into their deepest, unusual tendencies. This might not be to everyone's tastes, but it is all rendered with utmost beauty and sensibility. There’s no passionate scene that is not coloured with love, respect, devotion and consent. While Jasper teaches with masterful concern, she blooms with her self-awakening. This kinky scenario is explicit and abundant, and it goes through several phases as the characters grow in their relationship. That includes a very selfless yet dramatic decision on his part that can be considered heartbreaking, but also eye-opening and necessary.

The final chapters are painful, beautiful, and rewarding. I could have done without some exploration on her part, but it is part of the lessons they both had to learn. Very interesting, intense, and controversial romance. Not to be taken lightly.

MY OPINION OF WANTING HER STEPDAD

Looking for a hot mix of innocent and dirty? I know I got my fix with this taboo little romance.

Having read a couple of novellas from this author I didn’t want to miss this one, despite the fact that it goes somewhat beyond the explosive forbidden into age-gap play between a trustworthy thirtish man and the young woman under his protection. 

It is a very hot, very sweet relationship. The characters try to resist, but they actually love each other. It is so tender as they make love because he is affectionate and she feels safe with him at all times. A little conflict comes from her mum and the pressure she feels at school,  yet the ending is so blissfully happy it really melts the heart. 

I enjoyed the contrast between her innocence and his protective alpha side. I am not sorry I read it 😂
