I'm so happy I could read this anthology of hot novellas. From the very start, I loved the theme and I couldn't resist the temptation ;o)

Totally worth it. This bundle comes full of stories with original plots, interesting characters and steamy scenes that cater to all kinds of naughty but sexy little kinks.

A tiny work of art, this novella by Sky Warren. The Magnolia Hotel is too short, but it's beautifully full of emotion, sensuality and romantic gesture.

I always thought that blackmailing a helpless woman into having illicit intimacy with a man who's not afraid to use his power is wrongfully erotic. Mind you, only if there is no pain involved and if there's love at the end of that twisted tunnel. Fortunately, this story captures the difficult magic of this scenario to perfection. I loved the fact that this couple-in-the-making knew each other form the past, that they share unfinished emotions. 

She's trying to save her idiotic brother from a criminal revenge, he's not against coercing the little heroine into pleasuring him despite her negative opinion of him. Too much heat and angst ensue, and the author manages to be arousing, meaningful and romantic in just a few pages. Really loved it!

A detective is about to be interviewed by a journalist on criminal sexual behaviour in Unlawful Seduction by Pam Godwin. The author plays with the law and delivers a few plot twists that made my eyes go wide. I admit one of those twists cut my mood short but I suppose it could have the opposite effect on others.

Sheri Savill – Slipknot, forceful bondage for a smartass thief with a different ending. I liked the beginning, very exciting.

Cynthia Richards – Captivated, a gorgeous and maddeningly short encounter between a prisoner and his female marshal taking him to a low-security prison. Oh, the things that can happen on the road!

Shoshanna Evers – This Might Hurt A Bit, this was so funny! A robery gone bad or kinky bad or too good to be true but happy about it. You will find a sexy calendar, a brave woman with a practical mind, and a young desperate man who's about to have this butt kicked in a most arousing way.

Candy Quinn – The Bombshell, what is it about a hard, badass prisoner that makes a good woman squirm? Maybe she's not so prim and proper after all because the chemistry in this tale is unlawfully hot. I loved how naughty, perverted it was. Specially because of the ending which deserved a few more sentences to make it more rewarding.

Tamsin Flowers – Playing with Fire, OMG. This is amazing. Again we have this effective ruse of getting two strangers together by blackmail. In this case, Cassandra is helping her sister out of drugs by agreeing to prostitute herself in her place. But oh how she takes control of this horrible situation. I loved it so much that I wished the novella led to a full-length novel.

Elizabeth Coldwell – Disposing of Donnie, such a crafty twist this one is loaded with that I had to laugh at the end. A marriage is always dissolved by death, and sometimes Mike helps bring it along more quickly than nature deems necessary. All for a good price. Hot, quirky and packed with poetic justice. Very nice.

Audrey Lusk – Surprise Witness, two lawyers and a badass prisoner in a small room? This is too wicked to tell, but has it own brand of dirty sexiness that will awe and bewilder many a reader.

Trent Evans – Last Day, a very intense and erotic tale of a dom and his blackmailed submissive. Harsh but fulfilling.

Giselle Renarde – Acquitted, a weird story that walks on the edge of fetish. I wouldn't like to be in the shoes of a naive girl whose boyfriend had been accused of heinous crimes. Despite the weird sensation of not knowing, or perhaps suspecting the truth, it's well written and provokes an eerie sense of intimacy.

FROM “MAGNOLIA HOTEL” BY SKYE WARREN

Maybe Liam still had that spark of humanity, of compassion, I’d once loved as a child. And even if I knew my brother was partly to blame for his situation, I couldn’t leave him to the wolves. Namely, one wolf. Liam.

I turned to my childhood friend who looked so different now with the glint of scruff on his face, with a bend in his nose where it had been broken. He looked some much more distinguished. In fact, he looked intimidating.

“Please let him go. Even if he… I know what he did. But he’s my brother. I can’t leave here without him. Take the two thousand. I’ll get you more, soon. I promise you. Just don’t hurt him.”

“Do you know how much he owes me, Grace?”

I swallowed. “Five thousand dollars?”

His face pulled into a slight grimace. He sighed. “Fifteen.”

I stood there, stunned. Unable to gasp or even breathe. Fifteen thousand dollars. I would never have that much money, not ever. But he was my brother.

“Please,” I whispered, reduced to begging.

Liam looked away, and for a horrible second I thought it was a refusal. My stomach pitched wildly, in fear and doubt and desperation. How could I fix this? I couldn’t, I couldn’t. My brother was going to be beaten or killed.

Then he turned back to me, a hard glint in his gunmetal eyes. “There is a way you can help. You can be mine, Grace. Mine to do whatever I want with.”

Seconds passed with excruciating slowness as my mind protected me. Then reality slammed into me—all at once. He meant sex. I was almost sure he meant sex. Then I laughed at myself, hollow and jaded. What else would it mean?

I hadn’t thought it possible to hate Liam more, but I did, because he’d setup an impossible choice. For fifteen thousand dollars—and for my brother’s safety—I had to agree.

What did that make me? A prostitute? A sex slave?

I looked at my brother as the offer stood in the air. He wouldn’t meet my eyes. Couldn’t he at least put up a token protest? At least try to protect my honor? “Never again,” I whispered.

Benny nodded, or maybe he was just drifting out of consciousness, his head bobbing slightly. Who knew? I was done. I would do what Liam required of me, and then I would be finished. Finished with family. Finished with criminals.

I’d be alone then.

I nodded grimly. “I’ll do it.”

All In: sexy couple + guest post+ giveaway

As I had the opportunity to read BREAK ME, by Autum Stark, I couldn't say no to the next story, ALL IN. I assure you it won't disappoint you if you're looking for a sexy read that shines with originality.

MY OPINION OF ALL IN

I really liked how this couple meets. They're opposites. She's close to a reclusive and he's an actor pursued by paparazzi. When he breaks into her home looking for shelter from fans and flashes, she's not overly opposed to his proximity. Not only is he famous, but she's heard lots of things about him through their common friends, Tony and Abby, something she hides from him. That's how they end up spending a night talking, watching a movie on TV, and then it all leads to a pact of wild and unrelenting sex.

It was a lot of fun to see Parker and Jay play this game of cat and mouse. No strings is not going well with them, so pent-up frustration often explodes into red-hot encounters.

Even though they crave to have a relationship, their lives are so different that it poses a really tough challenge.

The author manages really well to infuse the intense lovemaking with emotional need. There's a couple of intimate things that may seem a bit unrealistic, but that's what makes the story all the way hotter and more intense.

Favourite quote:

Jay had worked himself into the fabric of her life. She was starting to hoipe a little that maybe she could keep him there.

Favourite moment:

the sweet and funny phone conversation they have while Jay is in L.A.

Things get really complicated for Parker, her quiet life goes to hell in the most unexpected way. It's all Jay's fault, of course, because he has issues with anger and control that are spilling into his relationship with her. That part of the story got me glued to my e-reader with my eyes wide open and my knuckles white-tight.

As I'd read Break Me, I was happy to get back in touch with Tony and Abby and her brothers. All those great guys are really alpha males but a close-knit bunch of good guys that are keen on family. It was pretty touching how they all stand up for Parker in the protective, big brother style

The ending was quite hectic and romantic. I'm definitely invested in this family now so I'd like to read whatever the author creates in the future.

Topic: Top Ten Things to Fight Boredom in Good Company

As writers, we spend a lot of time alone. It’s the perfect career for an introvert. But even introverts and writers have times they venture out into the great, wide world with friends. So what to do?

1.   Tacos and Tarot: You can never go wrong with food, and whether you believe in it or not, perusing the future and the unknown can be great for group speculation. Beyond the obvious “T” pairing, Tacos somehow end up always being fun (at least at my house) and rarely a miss.

2.   Kokology: This is a Japanese psychology game that is all kinds of giggles and epiphanies. The cool thing about this game is that it’s an instant boredom killer and helps everyone involved explore a pretty popular topic: what the hell is going on in our brains? Some are sillier and some more serious, but it’s actually pretty amazing and accurate.

3.    Coffee or Tea + Awkward Questions: When you’re with a group of people and there’s a distinct possibility that it will degenerate into conversations about the weather, my first instinct is usually to latch onto anything that will get people talking. First, liberally apply caffeinated beverages (or alcoholic ones at that). Second, ask an awkward question to get the conversation rolling. For example: Who would you eat first at this table if we were stuck on a desert island? It seems juvenile, but I guarantee it will make things more interesting and stave off boredom.

4.   Cards Against Humanity: This is a great game to play to get to know your friends or new people better. It’s sort of like throwing everyone into an X-ray machine and getting to really see what they’re made of--they can’t help but reveal their dirtier, un-PC side. It’s a highly entertaining and unusual way to spend a couple of hours.

5.   GIF Wars: Sometimes the “good company” is nowhere near you except virtually and/or near you but unable to do or say much (think commuting on the bus). Welcome to GIF Wars. There’s variations on this (Pic Wars, Quote Wars, etc), but I love GIF Wars. Text back and forth progressively funnier, wittier, or hotter commentary on the topic of your choice. Recently I engaged in a week long Pic War with a friend involving “Fantasy Husbands.” We’d send each other pictures proving our celebrity fantasy husbands were hotter and/or better than the other.

And now for a switch...What does “Good Company” equal? Let’s get specific.

6.   Your Best Friend: We all like to think we know our best friends as well as possible, but the truth is that there’s always something to find out. In moments of dire dullness, break out the “What If” game. It’s creative critical thinking at its best. For example: What if the man you were in love with wanted you to be the mother of his child, but only the mother of his child? Instant boredom killer and an interesting way to get insight into yourself and your nearest and dearest.

7.   A New Romantic Interest: The thing about dates with a new love interest is that they are always awkward and uncomfortable. They also tend to be pretty predictable. Not that that’s bad, but if you want to speed things along and see if he/she is worth your time, make a date to do something you love or enjoy that’s out of the ordinary. Go to a children’s museum and unleash your inner child. If they play along, hello date number two.

8.   A Committed Romantic Partner: There’s always room for depth and fun at the same time...something that’s more unusual maybe. Start a conversation that begins with “If you could do X over, what would you do?” Or, maybe, ask them to tell you about your very own love story. Hell, maybe tell them your version of your very own love story. Get interested in the details of your shared lives.It’s kind of amazing what you’ll find out sometimes.

9.   Family Time: Most of the time most of us love our families (born or made), but they can also create awkward vacuums of time for us. Try taking your family to do something “normal” for you, but not for them. I recently got my mother into making green smoothies with me. She was absolutely fascinated...and I got to prep for my normal life in the process.

10.           Yourself: Let’s face it. Most of us leave ourselves out of the equation, but you’re probably some of the best company around. So take some time out for yourself and do something you love, but don’t get nearly enough time to do (or feel guilty for doing). Play Candy Crush. You know you want to.

Shakespeare with a twist: Ophelia comes with a review, an interview and a giveaway

Yes, I know, I read too much... just joking ;o) This past week I read a couple of short stories that deal with romance beyond what's socially acceptable. Today I focus on OPHELIA'S LESSONS, by Easmae Browder.

A teasing short story about a woman's learning path in the sensual realm. The best thing about this novella is that it's loosely based on Shakespeare's drama Hamlet. In this case, it's an erotic view on the bard's imaginings.

We have the well-known characters of Ophelia, Hamlet, Horatio... and they all come with their little schemes.

Ophelia is in love with Hamlet, but he has certain tastes she's too naive to fulfill. So Portia offers to provide the experience needed via Horatio. Thus starts a series of delicious lessons in the art of pleasure. After spending some quality time with Horatio, she begins to grow attached to her first lover. However, when the time comes to meet her true goal, things get a little darker than expected.

I liked the parallelisms between the original plot and this version that, nonetheless, adds a  modern twist to the place and time it is set in. The intimate scenes are frequent, hot and graphic.

I also liked the changes the main character goes through. She starts innocent, but when she's ready for Hamlet she has to play coy to hide how much she craves what she's learned and how far she's willing to go to achieve her personal goal. After all, she shouldn't want something she's supposed not to be aware of. In order to get her dreams, she has done so much that she's not the same person. I don't know about you, but waiting so long for something usually spoils the dream for me.

It was pretty entertaining, but the resolution came about too quickly. I'd have liked more drama even if we already know the outcome.

INTERVIEW

In two or three sentences, what are the main themes of this novel?

Ophelia’s Lessons is a modern day, erotic prequel to Hamlet and attempts to explain the back story of one of Shakespeare’s most tragic female characters. This novel touches on the theme of true love, deception, and betrayal, but in a sexy, light hearted way.

What inspired you to choose Shakespeare as the basis for a steamy story?

I’m pretty sure I dated Shakespeare in another life. I might even have been his muse...just kidding! I have always liked his work, but I felt like he doesn’t do justice to some of the women in his plays. I wondered why Ophelia loved Hamlet so much that she could be driven mad by his actions. Exploring her back story, as well as, the back story of some of his other female characters was a great challenge and really fun to add some larger sexual elements to.

Who was the first character you came up with when creating the story?

Ophelia, but I guess that was sort of cheating! I mean, the Bard did come up with her first. However, her roommate, Portia, is all my own creation. She’s naughty and always got her mind in the gutter!

Tell us about other books in this series.

The Naughty Shakespeare series currently is made up of Ophelia’s Lessons, Ravishing Rosaline (a prequel to Romeo and Juliet), and The Taming of the Prude (a retelling of The Taming of the Shrew). I do see several other works coming in the near future!

What are the last two books you've read?

Something Borrowed and Something Blue by Emily Giffen. Fast paced, great characters, and interesting love situations!

What's a typical day in your writing routine?

I try to get up early. I stress try. Once, I’ve had my coffee, then I consider going to the gym. Usually, I just consider it. Occasionally I actually do it. After that, I spend the morning on promotional things for my various projects. Afternoons are for writing! And some times napping…

Besides writing, what things do you enjoy?

I’m a big reader so my Kindle is full of great novels! I enjoy the arts--particularly theatre and dance. I’m certain that at the age of 40 it is still not too late for me to be a ballerina. I just need a good pair of shoes, right?  I’m also an avid Game of Thrones watcher. I literally cried tears of joy over the demise of a certain evil jerk who finally got what was coming to him!

What are your writing plans for the rest of 2014?

I just got back from the Romance Writers of America conference in San Antonio which was incredibly invigorating! EXCERPT

“You look fabulous.”

Portia’s eyes were filled with admiration as she surveyed her handiwork. She’d dressed Ophelia in a simple white dress. It fit to the curves of her body like a delicate glove, the silver zipper in the back running all the way down to the hemline. All a lover would have to do was pull the zipper down and her voluptuous body would be revealed.

“I like your hair up like that, too,” Portia said. “All those springy curls will create a wonderful effect during the heat of passion when he pulls it down.”

Astonished, Ophelia stared in the wide mirror above the couch.

Reflected back at her was a person she’d never seen before--someone who held a childlike innocence on her face that belied her twenty one years. Tucked into that innocence was the possibility of more.

“Well, what do you think?” Portia tapped her foot, impatient. “Do you like it or not?”

“I love it,” Ophelia whispered. “You’ve made me beautiful.”

“You were always beautiful darlin’,” Portia said, giving her arm a squeeze. “You just didn’t know it. And after tonight, you’ll be a little vixen. I have a feeling about you, Ophelia. Sex is going to change everything.”

There was a knock at the door.

Portia clapped her hands in excitement, while Ophelia bit her lip, her heart beating a mile a minute.

This was it.

What she’d been waiting for.

“Take a breath.” Portia instructed her. “It’s all going to be okay.”

With a small nod, Ophelia did as she was told.

“Horatio, how are you darlin’?” Portia opened the door, revealing a dark haired man. In the dim light of the hall, he seemed larger than life, his square shoulders framed in the doorway. “Come on in.”

Ophelia couldn’t help but let out a little gasp of surprise when he entered the room.

Horatio. Hamlet’s best friend. What could Portia be thinking by setting her up like this?
