Roxy Sloane has impressed me, book buddies. She has written a superb romance full of emotion, realism and scorching-hot sensuality.
MY OPINION
I love it
when a premise takes me by force and never lets me down. I've always felt the
appeal of the writing world, so the fact that the couple in this book is made
of a difficult male writer and a stubborn female editor, who is also his fan,
is just too much of a temptation.
And this is
tempting all right. The streamlined and sophisticated prose beautifully paints
a love for the finer things. Art, food, architecture, and sensuality all come
alive and mingle in a tasteful atmosphere.
Ellie is the
vibrant editor who craves to awaken the lost spark in her favourite author's
declining narrative. Jackson is the complicated, somewhat reclusive writer
who's torn between keeping his privacy and conceding to the flaming attraction
between them.
There are
plenty of steamy scenes that can and will leave the reader breathless and
deliciously unsatisfied. Yet there's passion beyond the physical. However
scorching that part is, the story taps deeply in what life really means. I have
the impression that I met this person, this resilient, smart, sensitive woman
that Ellie is. I got to know the wonderful friendships she holds, the emotional
bond with her fragile mother, the importance of her work as an editor.
The plot
twist really caught me unaware with its devastating intensity. This novel deals
with trust and second chances, and how wounded people may indulge in their own
pain but also how they might cope and recover with a stronger sense of love and
self. It's a powerful, sensual, meaningful and original. Loved it!
