for a computer security job, these two almost-lovers share a smart, fun banter
that goes way back. They have a lot of pent-up sexual frustration and longing
for each other since they've known each other for a long time.
Dare to
Resist, by Laura Kaye, is a fairly long novella which allows plenty of room to set up the
situation and to get to know the characters as well. Which is pretty awesome as
the story takes place during a day at most.
The writing
style is good and funny and conveys absolutely the right mood. I always
appreciate that the couple has a past so I can learn about their relationship
up until now and accept their current feelings, why they are what they are,
through memories and dialogues and reactions. It felt so real and sweet and far
from insta-love-lust.
And the
sexuality? Oh, mama. Sizzling, passionately intense, and in no-small-amount
absorbing. Deliciously scary too. It entails some kinky intimate stuff so it
might deter some readers at first, but I assure you it's all manageable if
you're not much into it. After all, the characters trust each other, they care
and would never hurt the other physically or emotionally. The intimacy is full
of hot games and chases and rough fantasy, though it's not dark. It's beautiful
and hot. Especially because there is a deep and meaningful connection between Colton
and Kady. They want to be seen and accepted for who they are. The fact that
they finally find all their desired and emotional needs completely satisfied by
the person they'd already fallen for makes it the more blissful and fulfilling.
I'd recommend
this story to everyone who likes romance spiked with a little daring into
unknown territories, but be reassured that it's also overflowing with tender,
real characters with doubts and yearnings, and who are very much in love. In
addition, the ending is cute, so cute!
