MY OPINION
This modern Jane Eyre retelling keeps getting better. Equally atmospheric and eery, the plot is brimming with stormy emotions, forbidden yearning, and a plethora of mysteries. Jane is like a butterfly pinned by Beau's formidable passion.
I was jumping with the need to find out what happened after that explosive cliffhanger in book one. Feelings run rampant along with fury and restrained love with this couple. Boss and nanny never had more obstacles to fulfill their soulful lust. Yes, that's what it feels like between Jane and Beau, every scene marked with epic sensuality. A giant fan is needed to douse the fire this story rouses.
It's more than that though. This relationship is alive with denied happiness and trust. He keeps pushing her away with cold deeds and cruel words, and sweet, brave Jane takes everything in stride even though she's bleeding inwardly with pain. There's a particular scene that I think deserves some punishment for it is incredibly hurtful the way he behaves towards her. Despite that evil moment, there's this powerful tug-of-war between the characters as they fight their impossible romance while also indulging in insanely hot sins of the flesh. What's more, the secrets behind all the tragedies they are facing are surfacing in a most frightening way.
I was really amazed at the creative turn of the homage to Jane Eyre's story. This is also a deep insight into trauma and bereavement from a little child and the reflection of it in a grown up that experienced something similar. There are many scenes devoted to the little girl Paige as she faces even more trauma, and how Jane and Beau deal with it with care and patience.
Not one chapter is free from strong emotion. Let alone that cliffhanger that poises so much threat and shock for everyone. Next book is a must!

When I signed up for the nanny agency, I didn't expect a remote mansion on a windswept isle. Or a brooding billionaire who resents his new role. His brother's death means he's now in charge of a moody seven year old girl. She's lashing out at the world, but I can handle her. I have to. I need the money to finish my college degree. As long as I can avoid the boss who alternately mocks me and coaxes me to reveal my darkest secrets.
MY OPINION
Eerie atmosphere, a brooding dark hero, and a broken woman full of unclaimed love. Who could have done it better than this author?
From the dramatic start, this story promises deep emotion and shattering sensuality. The young woman looking to improve her life enters the wolf's cave in the middle of a storm. That storm seems to pervade the entire mansion, the cliffs by the roaring sea, the inhabitants who dwell in pain and bereavement. Is this Jane Eyre with a captivating twist into a lustful modern world? This Mr Rochester has his own demons to prove it, but he brings along a myriad of temptations.
I was thrilled with the atmospheric setting and the female character. She is torn by her painful past, but she fights for a brighter future. All her strong and vulnerable self is poured into helping a little girl. I loved those heartfelt scenes with the child. Her guardian, though, is another kind of hell. One filled with harsh words, steely presence, hateful longing, and carnal corruption that Jane cannot get enough of.
You will devour this story with abandon. I know I did! I relished the isolated world in the mansion teeming with throbbing desire let loose at night. Those forbidden little steps Jane and Beau take to indulge in pleasures also open doors into their feelings. It is both sensual and bittersweet. Jane is an endearing character whom I wish all the happiness she has been denied. She has a backbone of steel under that fairy-like youth. And the dialogues with Beau are amazing and funny.
I am really curious about the mystery surrounding Mr Rochester and his niece. And even though I was expecting the next parallelism to Jane Eyre's tale, the heart-stopping tragedy of the cliffhanger still shook me. I am counting the days till the next book in the trilogy. I will not miss it!
