Cover reveal: NOCTICADIA

Hi, book buddies :-) I'm back with a cover reveal that seems rather fitting for Halloween, right? :-)

NOCTICADIA

Author: Keri Lake

Cover Design: OKAY CREATIONS

Genre: Dark Gothic Academia Romance

Release Date: TBA

Mortui vivos docent.

The dead teach the living.

After watching my mother succumb to a mysterious illness, I promised myself two things. I’d find the cure for what ravaged her. And leave the godforsaken city where she abandoned me.

Four years later, I receive an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest, most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it’s rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before. Those whose bones are said to make up the island’s white sandy shores.

And restless ghosts aren’t even its most daunting peculiarity.

Devryck Bramwell, known on campus as Doctor Death, is a brilliant pathologist in charge of the midnight lab. He’s also my devastatingly handsome professor, who seems to loathe tenacious first-years, like me. Except, his dark and enigmatic gaze tells me all the ways he’d devour me if given the chance, and his stolen kisses burn my lips with forbidden jealousy.

I crave his authority.

He aches for redemption.

Together, we’re toxic. Delicious fodder for the prying eyes hellbent on exhuming the rotted skeletons of our pasts.

For the dead have much to teach, and it’s only a matter of time before Dracadia’s most depraved secret is resurrected.

Keri Lake is a dark romance writer who specializes in demon wrangling, vengeance dealing and wicked twists.

Her stories are gritty, with antiheroes that walk the line of good and bad, and feisty heroines who bring them to

their knees.  When not penning books, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughters, and their rebellious Labrador (who doesn’t retrieve a damn thing).  She runs on strong coffee and alternative music, loves

a good red wine, and has a slight addiction to dark chocolate.

Open the DOOR OF BRUISES

Hi, book buddies ☺ It is a bittersweet pleasure to read the last book in a series of four. Almost like an epiphany.

DOOR OF BRUISES (Thornchapel #4)

by Sierra Simone
 Release Date: November 30th

MY OPINION

How can one express the feeling of finishing the fourth and final book in a gutting, mesmerising series such as this.

The author's words have a bewitching pull. The narrative quickly carries an atmospheric weight, lush with ancient secrets that haunt the already broken-hearted characters and that yearn to invade and take root. Every chapter is a path to discovery amidst danger, longing, insatiable lust and regrets.

Regal Auden is torn between loving too much and keeping his impulses to a minimum so as not to hurt whom he loves most. Rebecca is torn between her newly found feelings and the loathsome loss of the object of her desires. Becket is filled with a mystic zest born from a life-altering act and St. Sebastian cannot make the choice that is tearing him apart.

I particularly felt drawn towards Auden's myriad of subtle feelings and sensations. He understands himself so much better now, and the depth of his thoughts is as touching as the sweetness of his love for Poe and St Sebastian. The scene where the two men share a fashion necessity is pure art. And this author makes dirty into poetry, too. There are plenty of  voluptuous moments with couples or threesomes or multitudes, all drenched in profound emotion and trespassing ardour. Despite the encroaching sense of catastrophe and death, this band of loving friends indulge in carnal love as much as in soul searching.

Reading this book is like living a whole lifetime. I felt like I was all of the characters and also like they were my family, my clan. Thornchapel has become a staple in my treasure trove of gothic sites. I was utterly invested in the mystery that was sprouting from book searches and ritualistic lore and fairy legends. In this final part of the series, the atmosphere pulses with so much dread, with an unbeatable promise of sacrifice, with sinister roses and cycles of historical doom and fascinating discussions about archeology, belief, humility and duty. It is enthralling. Especially to a mind like mine which thrives on mystique and noble oblation.

The ending of this 4-book story is superbly crafted, tinglingly provocative, boldly queer, painfully solved and wrapped up in reckoning. Unforgettable. I'm going to miss you all, you sweet perverts.

Twelve years ago, our fates were sealed with a kiss.

We are all, for better or worse, doomed to love each other until death do us part. My heart belongs to Proserpina and St. Sebastian—even if he no longer wants it. Even if she has left it behind to follow him. Delphine’s fled back home, and Becket’s holy calling is in peril. And now only Rebecca and I remain at Thornchapel to face the unknown. The door is open. The door that shouldn’t exist; the door that people have died to close. I don’t feel like the lord of the manor...I don’t feel like a king or a wild god. I am a friend and a boyfriend and a brother—and a failure at being all of these things.

But the door doesn’t care about my guilt. It only cares about the sacrifice I’ll make to close it. As the bruising dark of Samhain approaches, so does the fate of our circle, of Thornchapel and the village and the valley beyond it. And I must don the crown, because one thing is still true, even if I must face it alone. Here at Thornchapel, the kings must go to the door.

Here at Thornchapel, all kings must die.
