MY OPINION

If there's a romance with heartbreak before the happy ending, I want to tap it ;-)

And this book promises that in spades right out from the very title.

An American woman is fleeing from a hurtful past into the English countryside where she meets a dashing gentleman who sweeps her off her feet. Unbeknownst to her, he's hiding an agenda that ties with her job and his noble family. The first part of this romance is centered around their easy, passionate fling. I enjoyed the flowing way it evolved from an affair to a deep bond, especially because of his pespective, we're aware of his growing lies and remorse. I loved the poignant separation, but when the truth comes out it lacked a bit of drama. It was really too short.

Later on, the consequences for both of the characters really paid off in suffering and guilt and mistakes. However, they never really talked beyond the fighting over the lie. The tension is unbearable as Addison is trying to overcome her meltdown over Oliver's betrayal. On the one had, it's bittersweet and dramatic, but on the other hand it's frustrating because they really spend half the book apart :-( At least, the female character really evolves and learns through a hell of emotions. She becomes stronger on her own. That was cool. I liked the reasons behind the deceit.

Though Oliver is not exactly a knight in shining armor, he's definitely a man in love. And this couple goes through emotional turmoil before they claim their hard-earned, rocky ending. Entertaining read in general and a good plot though it took the couple too long to reconcile.

She loooks at me like I am so much more than I am.
