Strong.
Hardworking.
Forbidden.
From the moment we met, we were star-crossed
lovers—always wanting, never having. We loved each other for most of our lives,
but right from the beginning destiny had other plans. She knew we would fall in love. She knew we would fall apart. Over and over again, like the curse of a
recurring nightmare. Or the hope of a
familiar dream.
Our past was tumultuous. Our future was bleak. But the one thing we always had was the
beautiful now.
Until that was taken from us, too.
MY OPINION
This author's stories are a guarantee of deep love and soulful sorrow. TBN deals with a couple whose feelings start to develop at the age of twelve when a painful moments gives birth to a bond that stands the ravage of time and turmoil. The gorgeous writing reflects the youthful longings, the forbidden escapades under the moonlight, and the passion that cannot be denied even against the whole world's pressure.
They live in a town that's biased against lack of money and social status. They both have to dodge and maneuver around the social laws, until they realize their love knows no boundaries. It broke my heart when the real threat to their staying together came to pass. The novel is divided in two timelines between their younger years and the aftermath of their broken relationship. That made everything that much more meaningful and poignant. Heartbreaking, too. Sometimes I fear reading one of M's stories because she is capable of such dramatic feeling that it tears my heart apart.
This particular story is all about love. Love from daughter to mother, mother to daughter, man to woman and vice versa. Hate, bigotry and dark secrets combine with the injustice and frailty of life to create a story that brings as much laughter and heat as it stirs grief, tears and despair. I loved it, I cried, I fell in love with Dane. I cannot regret reading such an homage to love and loyalty, though I run out of tissues to wipe away all my outpouring feelings! :-D
