MY OPINION
I'm always titillated by a retelling, especially if it's romantic and a bit steamy. I was not expecting this provocative, sarcastic twist from this author. It's mind blowing! Full of mystery, mischief, and lots of references to fairy tale characters and stories.
It was never what I expected, that's what I liked the most. The heroine is a mix of damsel in distress and foul-mouthed rebel. Also, the hero is someone far more fetching than the usual Prince Charming. I loved him. Though he's a bit of a dark hero, to be sure. Maybe the relationship is tending towards teasing and non-consent, yet the chemistry is intense. I was totally hooked on the enigma surrounding the male character and how it was pulling everyone to a dark fate.
The humorous banting between the main characters is very entertaining, and the final chapters mimic the ending of Beauty and the Beast with quite a few twists. Though I still prefer contemporary romance books from this author, this story is fun and witty.
