MY OPINION
When
opposites collide in love, sparks fly.
I’ve been
pleasantly surprised by this author’s new story as it seems to be completely
different from what I was expecting while maintaining her usually elegant,
addictive writing style.
Darcy and
Logan make an engaging couple and stand out as two perfectly defined characters
with such interesting profiles.
Of course,
there is romance at the heart of the story, and heart-racing sensuality. Yet it
is also a beautiful portrait of two flawed people trying to make sense of their
core self, and the atmosphere and the plot are delightfully rendered too.
Jane Austen’s
setting of countryside lifestyle and aristocratic families deeply rooted in a
picturesque village, tea time and jam-making, combine to back up a little duel
between man and woman. He stands for city life and money, she upholds tradition
and values. When he takes residence in a manor next door to hers, a small
sensual cataclysm engulfs both of their lives.
I loved the
awkward first impression so reminiscent of past times-novels, his dashing
entrance into her tranquil life, the initial dance of unexpected chemistry.
Them, the intellectual fight for beliefs that seem contradictory. It was clever
and fun and good-humoured. Woven into the tangle is the seed of heartbreak, and
this couple almost had me on the brink of tears (once, well several times).
They are so perfect together, but fears and past issues make an appearance with
brutal consequences. That part was bittersweet.
I loved their very human mistakes, Darcy’s
ladylike attitude to tragedy, and Logan’s Downton Abbey-grandmother. The final
chapters sweep you off your feet with hard decisions and the most beautifully
romantic closure. Loved all <3 <3
Synopsis
Love left me off its to-do list.
I date. I’m all for giving guys a chance. I’ve just never met the one.
Until on a spring morning in the English countryside, a tall, dark stranger emerges from the mist.
Logan Steele is all tousled hair, hard chest and lips so perfect I want to reach out and touch them just to check they’re real. I’m sure that’s a thunderclap of chemistry I feel between us.
Did I mention he’s an Earl with a self-made fortune?
A billionaire who works tirelessly for charity?
And he’s so hot, watching him is like staring at the sun.
But like I said, love isn’t rooting for me.
When I find out Logan Steele is out to destroy everything I’ve dedicated my life to protect, the chemistry disappears and the hope that had blossomed my chest turns to rage.
It no longer matters that he quickens my pulse just saying my name, weakens my knees with a single touch and that he might just be the greatest kisser that ever lived.
I might believe in love but Logan Steele is definitely not the one.
A standalone romance.
